First Ball Game!

Wednesday, Greg surprised me with a date night--just the two of us! We had a really good time. We went shopping and out to a nice dinner. We left the little booger behind with his Uncle Troy and Aunt Megan. We missed him a lot. Somehow the conversation always got back to him and how much we loved him. A couple of times I turned to the back seat thinking he was there. I am so used to having him along, I was almost surprised when he was not there. Although I didn't particularly like being away from him, we still had a really great time. Thanks Greg for being such a great husband (and dad)!

I had coffee with a friend from church who is a social worker for Marion schools. She told me some sad stories about parental neglect and the need these children have. Many children come to school without being properly clothed. Kids show up for school not wearing socks, underwear, belts with their pants falling down, coats, and some show up without wearing any shoes! Children come to school and haven't bathed or brushed their teeth in weeks! There is such a huge need in our very own community to help. Our small group is stepping up and gathering goods for the elementary schools. I am so excited!

Today, we had our first ball game and we won! Jace did awesome. He behaves so well when we take him to the gym. We think he likes all the noise. We were very proud of our guys (our other 13 sons) for how well they played today. It is fun to get the season underway (remind me that I feel this way when March rolls around and the season seems like it will never end). Jace was loved on by all the mommy's at the game--he is definitely not starving for love (or food--have you seen how chubby he is?).

Check out how fast our boy is growing and changing. I love is droopy cheeks and big smiles!

Best job ever!

We had so much fun at Wildcat Madness. Jace was a hit! He received quite an applause by the student body when he was introduced as one of the judges for the dunk contest. Greg was a proud daddy that night. He did great in the noisy gym. He seemed to love all the action. I definitely see a basketball player in our future...

Greg and I said just last night how we love our family of 3! It is so much fun having Jace. Having him definitely complicates things, but he is so worth it. We just can't imagine how we did it without him! Greg and I both agree that parenting is the best job ever! Today, we are relaxing and watching college football. I am trying to get some chores done around the house--things I couldn't get to during the week because of our high-maintenance, always wanting to be held, sweeter than honey, baby boy.

Tiffany and I are hosting a lunch for the families of our basketball players on Saturday before our first game (I can't believe it's the start of our season already)! We are making a couple different types of soups and some fall desserts. We are looking forward to seeing all the parents again and introducing them to Jace. It will be so much fun!

I'm still winning the kiss-off!

So comfy in his daddy's arms!

What a good daddy!

What a happy boy!

Kid, I hope you like basketball!

This is a very typical Jace face.

6 weeks old already!

I woke up this morning to silence. I couldn't believe it. Was Jace finally learning to sleep in a little? Wrong. Greg decided to let me catch up on a little sleep so he took Jace for a little jog around campus and then took him into the office for a little while. It was so nice, although I have to admit, I did miss the little booger for the short time we were apart. I have been trying to become more efficient with getting things done around the house. In the beginning, I thought cooking a dinner or doing a load of laundry was impossible, but I am starting to get the hang of it. My goal is to get one chore done a day. I have been trying to take advantage of nap time. Also, my best gal Tiffany and I started meal sharing one night a week so it helps that I have one less night to cook! I am excited for Jace to see his daddy in action!

Things are slowly getting busier for Greg with basketball games and recruiting season right around the corner. We have Wildcat Madness tomorrow, which is an event to kick off the basketball season by games, contests, and fun introductions. It's a fun way to get the students and players excited about the season.

Our first family outing

Greg wanted to fit in with the other farmers so he wore his favorite flannel shirt.

This was us on the hayride!

Greg, Jace, and I visited a pumpkin patch today. Some of my favorite childhood memories are family outings my parents would take us on. We would usually take a long driving route to wherever we were going (my dad is a big fan of scenic routes) and I wanted to pass the tradition on to my own family. So I thought, when is a better time to start family outings than now? We had a really good time! We bought some pumpkins, mums, went on a hayride, and just enjoyed the beautiful fall day. Even though Jace didn't have a clue to what was going on, we still enjoyed having him along! Fall is such a wonderful time of year!!

Our future ball player!

I thought I would update you on how Greg, Jace, and I are settling into our new and improved life. As for Greg and I, we absolutely love being parents. I think we both have been surprised by the love we feel for our son. It has been a real eye opener for us and has put things into perspective. It has shown us our own parents love for us, but more importantly has given us a glimpse of the love God has for us. Having Jace has given me a new appreciation for His grace! We couldn't imagine a life without Jace--he makes our day so sweet! As for Jace, he has been doing really well. At night, he eats at 3 am and 7 am... not bad. He is getting good at eating and going right back to sleep. I have really been enjoying staying home with him during the day. Our day just flies by! I started attending a MOPS (Mothers of Preschoolers) group at a local church and I think I will really enjoy it! They serve breakfast, have a craft (I'm not the craftiest person so this isn't my favorite thing), and a speaker. PLUS you get to spend time with other mothers who are also seeking some adult conversation. We had a really fun week with a visit from Amanda, Charlie, and Sawyer. Jace could only dream about the fun he was going to have in the near future with his cousins. I can just see them now... Anyway, we are now just enjoying a relaxing weekend at home. We hope to go to the pumpkin patch tomorrow. I am trying to start tradition with our little one. Greg's idea was to take him hunting, I opted for the pumpkin patch instead.

95th Percentile!

Jace is 5 weeks old today! We can't believe how quickly time is going by and how fast he is growing. He had a doctor's appointment today and the doc was very pleased with his growth! Jace weighed in at 12 ibs 10 oz. and grew 2 inches since birth, making him 23 inches long! This puts him in the 95th percentile for weight and height. He was a trooper through his Hepatitis shot, I think it was harder on me than him!

We are getting anxious for basketball games to start! We love fall and taking advantage of our free Saturday's, but we are always ready for the season to kick-off. It should be a really fun season! I was a little concerned about the loud noise during ball games, but since Greg has me bring Jace to their practices to get used to the sound of dribbling basketballs, I'm no longer worried. Jace will not only be there to cheer his Daddy on but he will also be stylin in his IWU gear!

Our Big Boy!

We had a wonderful weekend in LaPorte visiting friends and family. We first went to Valparaiso to join in some basketball alumni festivities for their homecoming weekend. Greg dominated in their alumni basketball game and 3 point shooting contest. Homer Drew promised a scholarship for Jace when he graduates high school. We celebrated Hugh's birthday on Saturday with the entire Tonagel clan. It was a little chaotic with all the people, but we better get used to it since our family will continue to grow much bigger. Hugh and Kathy treated all of us to a movie while they babysat for our little Jace. We had a great time on our first date since Jace has been born. I wanted to call and check in on him, but Greg stopped me. Sunday, Kathy Richards and Laurie Penziol threw a baby shower for us. It was so fun and we got some really great things. We got our big stroller, high chair, many adorable clothes. books, toys, and much more. Thanks to all! Jace slept the entire drive home and is trying to get back into his sleeping routine. It was a really great weekend and we had so much fun showing him off!
